For 35 years, Apple Festival has brought people to UBC Botanical Garden to celebrate the diversity of BC-grown apples and the growers who make that diversity possible. What began as a small gathering in 1991 has grown into an annual Vancouver tradition, welcoming visitors to taste unique apple varieties, meet local growers and spend a fall weekend in the Garden.
Bringing an event of this scale to life depends on support that extends beyond the Garden. Alongside the Friends of the Garden volunteers and Garden staff who organize Apple Festival, sponsors help connect the event with communities across Vancouver and share its story with people who may not yet know what happens here each October.
This year, Corus Entertainment continues its support through CKNW, joined for the first time by CFOX. Corus is one of Canada’s major media and entertainment companies, with its Vancouver radio stations reaching listeners across the Lower Mainland. Through CKNW and CFOX, Apple Festival can connect with audiences who tune in for local news, conversations, music and events. We are grateful to continue our relationship with CKNW while welcoming CFOX to the festival this year.
We are also pleased to welcome Curiocity as a new sponsor for 2026. Part of the ZoomerMedia digital network, Curiocity is a Canadian lifestyle publication focused on hyper-local food, events and experiences, with dedicated coverage of Vancouver. Its focus on what is happening within the city makes it a natural space to share the people and experiences behind Apple Festival. Support will also extend through Dished Vancouver, another brand within Curiocity Media Group, helping connect the festival with local audiences interested in Vancouver’s food community.
Global BC returns as a sponsor this year. Broadcasting in British Columbia for more than 60 years, Global BC has a longstanding presence in the province and regularly highlights local events and community stories. Its continued support helps bring Apple Festival and its focus on BC-grown produce to audiences across the region.
Save-On-Foods also returns in support of this year’s festival. With roots in British Columbia dating back to 1915, the grocery retailer works with local growers and producers across Western Canada and carries thousands of locally made products in its stores. That connection to BC food producers aligns closely with a festival built around locally grown apples and the agricultural diversity found across the province.
We are also grateful for the support of RE/MAX, whose agents and offices work in communities across Canada, including throughout the Lower Mainland. Community involvement is an established part of the organization’s work, including partnerships and programs supporting local causes. Its support adds another community connection to this year’s festival.
Stong’s Market also joins Apple Festival as a sponsor this year. A locally owned independent grocer with a history in Vancouver dating back to 1931, Stong’s has longstanding ties to the communities it serves and a focus on local products. Its support creates another connection between Apple Festival, BC-grown food and the Vancouver communities that gather around it.
These partnerships extend the reach of Apple Festival beyond a single weekend. They create opportunities to share stories about BC-grown apples, the people who grow them and the importance of maintaining crop diversity. As a fundraiser organized by Friends of the Garden, Apple Festival also directly supports education, research and conservation at UBC Botanical Garden.
In the weeks ahead, keep an eye out for Apple Festival stories and updates from our sponsors and Garden channels. Better yet, join us among the apple displays, tasting tables and autumn collections at UBC Botanical Garden on October 17 and 18.
